Introduction to Literature : Short Story and Poetry

First-year B.A students at Kavayitri Bahinabai Chaudhari North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon and has been prepared as per the Choice-Based Credit System (CBSC) guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC). This textbook includes all the units of the syllabus and its intention is to reduce the financial burden of the students. Despite this, teachers are advised to encourage their students to visit the library for further reading. The book has sections on 1) Short Story- Definitions and Nature 2) Types of short story 3) Aspects of short story 4) Shortstory 5) Poetry- Definitions and elements 6) Types of Poetry 7) Poems-Lyrics and sonnets 8) Elegy and Ode. This textbook has been prepared on the basis of our understanding of the needs and expectations of our students. The poems and short stories selected are from different countries and ages and are representative of the literary movements. The effort has been made to provide texts of poems, analysis and short stories to the purpose of students and teachers.
